I heard a commotion in my back yard when I looked out the window this is what I saw...

I have never seen these three boys before and have no idea who they are however they know Holly! It was hard to get a photo without being seen, I did not want to interrupt their fun and spoil the moment. They stayed and played with her for over an hour she chased them, they chased her, and they wrestled, they ran from one end of the yard to the other around the gardens and trees. The boys shouted and laughed Holly leapt and barked. They had fun.

Though this means my dog has a social life that I know nothing about.

Sometimes I do, there is a lot of interesting stuff posted around town. Posters stapled to the utility poles, posters tacked to fences, posters on the poster kiosks and bulletin boards. The city has a law about where you can post your posters. There are people who have jobs posting posters, and the city employes people to remove the posters.

There are posters that a just plain ugly, some are works of art, some are scraps of paper, some are plain others in full colour. There are posters about bands I have never heard of, those I have heard about. There are posters for bands that I thought were long gone yet there they are playing at a local bar. Missing pets ... so sad. Posters with 'Free Kittens'. Weird notes that must be in code and not meant for me, ‘cus I have no clue what they are about. Posters for Yoga, Tai Chi, running clubs, weight loss. Posters for yard sales, moving sales, flea markets and stuff for sale. Posters for classes of every kind. Posters for those seeking employment, for those offering jobs. Posters for local theatre. Posters for the Greek Fest, which was a few weeks ago did you go? We did… yummmm yummy. Posters for the Multi Cultural Festival, I missed that. Posters for tours around town, the Harbour Hopper, a Ghost Walk, Peggy’s Cove and more. Drive on rural roads and you will see posters for suppers: beans & brown bread, ham and scalloped potatoes, planked salmon, chowders with home made bread, and pies, lobster, potato salad & strawberry short cake, all home cooked and so very good. There are posters for everything you can imagine.

Mauve Summer is apparently is now living with a lime green monster named Henry, she says he is a famous rock star and he lives part time in a yarn shop! I hope your knitting and or crochet does not run away from home. Further updates will follow as news becomes available.

Not seeing much red...

Shovel by the back gate

I had a hard time finding red in my house; I am not a red person. I never wear red, ever. I can wear pink, plum, and wine, not red. There are no red items in my house, other than Jellicle’s collar and leash; he can wear red. Since, I was not about to go outside what with Tropical Storm Alberto trying to kick our butt yesterday. I have recycled a photo. I first posted this photo of the shovel last fall.

Bottles from my brother's collection.

I have posted about these bottles previously; I keep them on a window ledge in the upstairs hall. They are often one of the first things I see each day reminding me how precious life is and are a reminder to live each day as completely as I can.

Old & new black on Wednesday

I could have photographed my clothing from when I worked in the corporate world. I loved wearing black & white and had to force myself to add colour. Though I thought, seeing my clothes may not be as interesting as these two photos.

This chest was my maternal Grandfather’s.

When Granddad was a young man, he sailed with Zane Grey an author, avid adventurist, and sportsman. During a visit back home to his family in Eagle Head, Granddad was persuaded to attend a local dance. There he saw an auburn haired beauty whose’ family had just move up from Florida. She was 16 he was 25 it was love at first sight. They married; he joined the Nova Scotia Police Force, which eventually became part of the RCMP. They had six children one of whom was my mother.

No post about black would be complete without a picture of the little boys. They were helping me yesterday as I took the photo of the little chair,

My tutu from a ballet concert when I was 9 years old.

I have mentioned before that I do not join the do-a-longs and such. Though sometime a theme will happen at moment when I am thinking of the very thing. little birds & port2port are doing a colour week. I have been re-doing my bedroom and have most of the room's contents all in a jumble in a spare room. Today as I was seeking the paintings to re-hang on the bedroom walls, I saw my tutu lying forlornly at the top of a pile of linen. It is my intent to display the tutu in the bedroom once it is finished so I took it in with me to see how it looked with my newly painted walls.

I took ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance from the age of 4 years old to the age of 16 years old. I also took 4 years of Highland dance. My mother made all my costumes.

White Monday on the East Coast.

blueberries & scallops

Friday I took my parents to lunch on the waterfront. It was a bit of an adventure for them as I arranged for the Need-A-Lift shuttle van to pick them up and bring them over to Halifax. This way Dad would have his wheelchair and Mom would not need to drive.  There is a bit of roadwork being done around Historic Properties so we met just up the road and walked/wheeled down to the restaurant.

We went to Salty's; we sat inside, as there was a threat of rain.

We all had Digby scallops and dessert.

Seafood is plentiful here as it caught off our coast and I always have access to fresh scallops. I'll eat scallops no matter how they are cooked, I love them. These recipes caught my attention Tartelettes de Saint-Jacques à la Mangue, Seared Diver Scallops with Red Papaya, Honey Lime Sauce and Red Onion Salsa, Scallop Amuse Bouche with Star Anise, Leeks and Persimmon

When I got home as I was about to recycle the receipt from the restaurant, I saw an interesting notation on the slip: 1 grunt $5.95. Since this province is a huge tourist location I wonder how many CFA... that is to say a “come-from-away” might be puzzled by this notation since depending on where you are from a grunt can mean something else entirely.

Wild Blueberries are the number one fruit crop in Nova Scotia. The wild blueberry is our provincial berry and Blueberry Grunt is a traditional Nova Scotia recipe. There is even a band called Blueberry Grunt.

When we were looking in the shops I found Holly a new collar. The only way I could get her to sit relatively still for the photo was to distract her with a Nylabone. The collar is made from Nova Scotia Tartan.
